Functions – Motor Cortex

The motor cortex is an area at the rear of the frontal lobes that controls voluntary movements. The motor cortex operates in a very strange way, it consists of opposites! The right motor cortex controls and operates the left side of your body while the left motor cortex controls and operates the right side of your body. For example, if you are using your right hand to write, you are using the left side of your brain. Or, if you are using your left hand to write you are using the right side of your brain. Or if you are ambidextrous and you are writing with both of your hands, then you are using both sides of your brain (Myers 77-78)!
