Thalamus

The thalamus is a joined pair of egg-shaped structures that the brain’s sensory switchboard. It directs messages to the sensory receiving areas all throughout the body. It receives all information except for the sense of smell and directs all the other senses: seeing, hearing, tasting, and touching. The thalamus also receives some of the higher level of the brain’s replies, which then directs to the medulla and the cerebellum (Myers 72).
